Rick Hernandez, Senior Tax & Financial Advisor

I spent my youth in the south side of Chicago. As a teenager, I moved to Central California leaving my family and the cold weather behind. I attended Atwater High School and began working at a young age.

After working for the most prestigious restaurants in the area, I opened a restaurant in Turlock, CA. While it was a great experience, it turned out to be a costly venture that lasted six months and left me on the verge of insolvency. The restaurant was always full of customers, giving me the false impression that business was great. Vendors, rents, insurance, employees, utilities, and other expenses were anticipated but taxes, licenses, and governmental fees were unforeseen. I learned the hard way that business success is not measured by sales but is rather a complex operation that involves careful planning, accounting, and execution. It was then that I realized that sales were booming because I was severely underpricing my output and digging myself a hole that I would never come out from. That business failure motivated me to return to school and empower myself with the skills that I had long been lacking.

I would go on to receive a Business Administration Accounting Bachelor’s Degree with honors from California State University Stanislaus. A few years have gone by since then but I can proudly say that today I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. I have been in the Real Estate, Finance, Accounting, and Tax Preparation businesses for over 20 years. My long exposure in these fields have given me an insight on how actions in each affect income tax exposure and on how to plan these actions out to
limit tax liability.

Remember the failed restaurant venture? Something great did come out of that deal. It was there that I met my wonderful wife Carmen. We have been happily married for over 20 years and have a son pursuing his Real Estate license and a daughter attending UC Santa Barbara.

I am analytical, precise, relentless, and committed to putting my extensive knowledge and specialized skills to use in reaching the best results for your financial and tax related needs.
